Summer Wines from The Craig

Dear Craigers,

Here we are, right in the midst of summer … warm days, long evenings, flowers blooming, bees buzzing and still-warm cherry tomatoes picked from the vine. Each of us have our favorite pieces of summer, the thought or vision that comes to mind when you simply say the word. We also have our favorite wines that come to mind for summer sipping. While we might be enjoying this summer a little differently than we have in years past, with smaller more intimate dinners and staycations instead of vacations, we don’t have to deprive ourselves of the wines that conjure up memories of our favorite ways to spend these lazy summer days.

Here are three of our favorite summer selections. Each is a small lot wine, that was handcrafted into the very best representation of its varietal. There is something for every occasion here, whether it be a day by the pool, a warm evening by the firepit or the precise complement to whatever’s on the grill.

The 2017 Gap’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay, is racy, mineral laden and crisp. The perfect accompaniment to oysters or the perfect stand-alone sipper. It’s old world influence produces a wine that offers layers of flavor and a bright refreshing finish. With only 245 cases produced, this wine will be gone before you know it.

The 2016 Howell Mountain, Black Sears Vineyard Zinfandel, is a Zinfandel lover’s delight. This beautiful expression of a Howell Mountain “Zin” has those classic notes of boysenberry & brambleberry with a subtle pepper spice. It’s balance and beauty are really coming into their own, with a year in the bottle to develop.

Lastly, the newly released 2017 Côte de Craig (Syrah/Grenache blend) is the smallest production yet at just 77 cases. This is your “summer griller” staple. Add this wine to any barbecue and enjoy the black fruit, pepper and mineral components that offer a brightness that Cabernet Sauvignon cannot.

Choose any combination of these or your favorites from our website and let us help with the shipping costs. Stay strong, stay safe & keep sipping.

Cheers,
